Ever since switching over to WordPress I’ve wanted to find a new template. First, we really needed a facelift as the old template was “worn” and “dated.” But I also wanted to avoid the fate of Madeline Ashton (Meryl Streep) and Helen Sharp (Goldie Hawn).
WordPress keeps getting more powerful and most of the newer templates tend to either be too busy, showcasing all the new magic, or minimalistic, but without some of the more powerful features. I think I’ve found something here in Scott Wallick’s Sanbox based theme which can serve our purposes.
I ultimately wanted a design that would showcase our contributors and I think this theme does the trick. I appreciated the use of white and negative space as both a design aesthetic and as a compliment to the visual and textual content. Plus, the theme was named in honor of Danald Barthelme and his short story Margins.
Edward was explaining to Carl about margins. “The width of the margin shows culture, aestheticism and a sense of values or the lack of them, ” he said. “A very wide left margin shows an impractical person of culture and refinement with a deep appreciation for the best in art and music. Whereas,” Edward said, quoting his handwriting analysis book, “whereas, narrow left margins show the opposite. No left margin at all shows a practical nature, a wholesome economy and a general lack of good taste in the arts. A very wide right margin shows an person afraid to face reality, oversensitive to the future and generally a poor mixer.”
We’ll be tinkering around the margins here so stay tuned for further updates. Feel free to leave any comments or suggestions.
